Overview:
Barnham is a small town in the West Sussex County of England. This is also a civil parish of the Arun district, approximately five miles north of Bognor Regis. Covering an area of about 373 ha, the civil parish had a population of 1,372 inhabitants (2001 census). Like other towns in the South East England, Barnham has a number of retirement apartments for the aged people.The name Barnham is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The parish church, devoted to St Mary, here has a white wooden tower, which was once considered as an important assist to shipping in the English Channel.Barnham was major centre for market gardening, particularly alluvial soils. It consists of many large, industrial-sized greenhouses; however very few actually inside the parish limit. The area is still in a continuing debate about the amount of light pollution caused by these greenhouses. Barnham Nurseries and F. Toynbee Ltd were two main horticultural nurseries based in Barnham.Barnham has a moderate climate with regular, but generally light precipitation throughout the year. January is the coolest month, with an average temperature range of 2.4 °C to 7.9 °C. July is the warmest month, averaging 13.6 °C to 22.8 °C.
