The City of Bath is a charming and unforgettable place to visit in South West England, on the banks of River Avon. This unique city lies in rolling Somerset countryside, just 160 km west of central London and about 20 km south-east of Bristol. Also known as Bath Spa, this World Heritage Site is renowned for its hot springs, Roman remains, superb Abbey, and Georgian stone crescents.

Geography and Climate in Bath
Surrounded by a range of limestone hills, Bath lies at the southern edge of the Cotswolds, on the base of the Avon Valley. Spread over an area of 29 km², the hills are situated at a maximum height of 238 m on the Lansdown Plateau. The Avon River flows through the heart of the city. The flood plain of the river lies at an altitude of 17 m.
Bath has a temperate climate, however considerably warmer than some other places located at the same latitude. This warmer condition is because of the warming influence of the Gulf Stream. More than 50% of the days are cloudy. In winter, there may be strong winds and floods occurred.

Bath was built on the only naturally occurring thermal spa in the Britain. The spa has a recorded history dating back to the Roman times; however tradition recommends that it was founded prior to the Romans. The grand remains found here signify all other major periods of the England’s history, which include Saxon period, Norman era, Medieval time, and Tudor periods.

Today, the city boasts four famous theatres, namely Ustinov Studio, Theatre Royal, The Egg and Rondo Theatre, which draw internationally famous companies and directors.
Bath also owns a long standing musical custom. The Bath Abbey, the largest concert site in the city, is home to the Klais Organ. Bath International Music Festival, Mozartfest, Bath Film Festival, and Bath Fringe Festival are celebrated every year.
