Overview:
Colchester is one of the major settlements of the Shire County of Essex in the East of England. This oldest recorded Roman town is located approximately 50 miles north east of London. It is also claimed that Colchester is the oldest town in United Kingdom.
Archaeological evidences, which dates back to 3,000 years ago, found in the town supports the above argument. Today, most part of the town centre is within the ancient boundaries of Camulodunum.According to the latest census report, the town has a population of 104,390. Colchester has many education centres, which include two grammar schools, Colchester Sixth Form College, Colchester Institute, Alderman Blaxhill School, Philip Morant School and College, Thomas Lord Audley School, and Oxford House School.
The climate in Colchester is usually finest during the summer months. The average daily January temperature is about 6ºC (43ºF) and July temperature is 20ºC (68ºF). The town does not generally have an 'off-season' tourist period, and it is busy throughout the year.
