Overview:
Frome is a medium-sized town located in Somerset County of the South West England, close to the Mendip Hills. This charming town is full of history and full of character. Frome features many steep, winding, cobbled streets. It consists of more listed buildings than any other township in Somerset, more than 350. The River Frome that runs through the heart of the town also adds to Frome’s attraction.
This prosperous town earned much wealth from the wool and fabric business in the 17th century. During that time, Frome was larger than nearby town of Bath (13 miles to the north) and regarded more important. Markets have been an important part of the city’s history for more than 10,000 years. Frome still has regular markets, which are held in the town centre every week. It is ideally located as a touring centre, within easy reach of Longleat, Stourhead and Wells.

History:
The recorded history of Frome dates back to AD 685 when it was founded by St. Aldhelm. The town initially developed as a result of the weaving industry. Today, many weavers' cottages can bee found at the streets. There are also grand Georgian terraces gracing the town. Recently, Frome experienced a substantial growth, but it still holds its attractive centre most of which is found within a conservation region.
The Cheese and Grain Hall (an important popular music venue) and the Frome Museum are some among the notable modern day attractions. Frome received Fairtrade Town status on February 12, 2003.
