Ipswich is a town in East England, on the estuary of the Orwell River. This town is a non-metropolitan district and the county town of Suffolk. It is third-largest town in the East Anglia region of United Kingdom. Ipswich is also the England’s 38th largest urban area. According to the 2006 estimation, Ipswich has a population of about 140,000 people. The ethnic makeup of the town includes 93.4% White, 1.8% S.Asian, 3.6% Afro-Carib and 1.2% others.
The local government of Ipswich is a two-tier Council System. Two parliamentary constituencies control the town, which are Ipswich (covering about 75%) and Central Suffolk & North Ipswich (covering the residual 25%).
Ipswich is popular for its performing arts, annual arts festivals, galleries, and museums. It is home to a number of world famous artists. Major galleries here are those found in the Christchurch Mansion, the Town Hall, the Ancient House, and the Electric House.

History:
History of Ipswich is linked to the Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman, and Anglo-Saxon settlement (called Gippeswick). The town attained its first charter in 1200 by King John. In the next four centuries, it was a major textile centre in the country. From 1611 to 1634, the town was a main hub for emigration to New England.
