Oldham is a town in the ceremonial county of Greater Manchester, in the North West England, UK. This largest and the most central settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham lies in the Pennine hills, approximately 7 miles (11.3 km) north-east of the city of Manchester. Oldham is historically part of Lancashire. It was largely developed during the 19th century as an international textile manufacturing centre.Oldham has a generous annual quantity of clouds and drizzle. Summers and winters are both rather gentle, with temperatures in summers ranging from 53-66°F (12-19°C) and winter of 33-43°F (1-6°C).

History:
The history of Oldham dates back to 865 AD. Danish invaders established the first settlement in the area and called it Aldehulme. However, much of its history depends on the Industrial Revolution, especially 18th and 19th century cotton spinning.Oldham became a municipal borough in 1849. It was later incorporated as a county borough in 1889 when Lancashire County Council was created. The Local Government Act 1972 abolished the county borough and consequently the town became part of Greater Manchester in 1974. Since then, it has been the seat of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham.
