Overview:
Poole is a coastal town located in Dorset County of South West England. This is a popular tourist destination in the region and is noted for its large natural harbour lying on the shores of the English Channel. Poole is full of attractions and activities, such as the familiar Poole Pottery, Sandbanks peninsula, Tower Park, and several historic 18th century buildings. The town also has first-rate facilities for boating and water sports, which include windsurfing and jet skiing.
The headquarters of Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Sunseeker, and Animal (the 'worldwide freeride' clothing company) are located at this town. Poole’s prominent employers are Barclays Bank, Poole Packaging, Hamworthy Engineering and Ryvita.
In addition, Poole is one of the most preferred areas for fishing and deep-sea fishing in the south-west of England. A number of mackerel-fishing trips are regularly operated from the Poole Harbour.

Geography and Climate in Poole
The historic town of Poole is situated on a very popular stretch of shoreline, with Bournemouth coast to the east and the Jurassic coast to the south-west. It is part of an urbanized area called the South East Dorset conurbation that comprises Bournemouth and Christchurch.
Hamworthy and Upton is located to the west of Poole. The settlements of Merley, Broadstone, Canford Heath, and Wimborne are at the northern edge of the town. At the eastern edge, the town joins with the settlements of Winton and Westbourne.
The average winter temperature in the month of July is 77ºF (25ºC). The temperature does not exceed of an average 46ºF (8ºC) from November through to March.

History:
The Poole Harbour area has been occupied for more than 2,000 years. Archeological evidences show that the Celtic Durotriges, the local tribe, lived in Dorset area of the town in the Iron Age.
In the 1st century, Poole was among many of harboring sites along the south coastline where the Romans landed. Hamworthy, an area located just west of the modern town centre, was founded by the Romans.
The Norman rulers made it a small fishing village. Later, it suddenly became an important port exporting wool. Poole was made Port of the Staple in 1433. The town received its county corporate status in 1571. The large development occurred during the industrial revolution. The town of Poole was made a unitary authority on April 1, 1997.
