Overview:
Watford Town lies in Hertfordshire Country, about 27 km (17 miles) north-west of London city centre. Within the limits of the M25 road, the town is situated to the north of Greater London; however it is not part of it. Watford was founded as an urban district by the Local Government Act 1894. It was granted municipal borough status in 1922.
The British phrase “North of Watford” is associated with this town. The term is generally used to represent regions of the UK, which are located to north of London. Perhaps, the phrase is because Watford was one of the first sites that horses were changed on the way to the north-west regions from London.
The population of the town is estimated at 79,500 inhabitants. The ethnic makeup of the town is 86.0% White, 8.2% S.Asian, and 2.7% Afro-Carib. Watford Rural parish covers an area to the south of the Watford borough, in the Three Rivers District. The neighboring places include Bushey, Kings Langley, Rickmansworth, South Oxhey, Abbots Langley, and Leavesden.Watford is home to a number of national and multi-national companies, which include Camelot Group, Iveco, Haden Young, Total Oil, Costco, TK Maxx, and Beko. The town is also home to professional football club Watford F.C.The High Street running through the heart of Watford is a major site for any activity at night. Occasionally called the café quarter, this street contains a high concentration of the town's clubs, bars, and restaurants.
