York is a Viking city located in Yorkshire County (to which the city lends its name), in Northern England. It is home to a wealth of history and culture. York is noted for its narrow, medieval streets surrounded by the 13th century city walls. History:
York was founded in AD 71. The present name is said to be derived from Eboracum, the Latin name that was once used to call the city. York has an affluent Viking and Roman history. It acted as capital of Britannia Inferior, the Roman province. Later, the city became the headquarters of the Archbishop of York. It also acted as a major hub for the Viking kingdom of Jorvik.
