St Helens Town lies in the metropolitan county of Merseyside in the North West region of England, UK. Historically, it was part of Lancashire. St Helens is the largest town within the metropolitan borough of St Helens. According to the latest statistics, the town had a population of 102,629. The main religion in the town is Christianity (about 87%).
St Helens was not created until the late of the start of the 19th century. The area was formed by joining the townships of Eccleston, Parr, Sutton and Windle. St Helens is named for St. Helen's Parish Church in Hardshaw. It was incorporated as a borough in 1868. Later in 1889, it became a county borough.

Billinge Hill is the highest point here and is located 3.75 miles north to the town centre. Mill Brook (or Windle Brook) is a stream running through the town. St Helens is about 50 m above sea level.The climate in St Helens is usually finest during the summer months. The average daily January temperature is about 6ºC (43ºF) and July temperature is 20ºC (68ºF). The town does not generally have an 'off-season' tourist period, and it is busy throughout the year.
